RedSn0w’s support for capturing SHSH blobs from the the iPad Mini and the iPad 4 may have come just in time. Not only has Apple released iOS 6.0.1 to users, but the company has also seeded iOS 6.1 betas for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch to developers, along with an update to the Xcode development platform.
Details are scarce about the benefits of the iOS 6.1 update. All we know so far is that, according to Apple, the Map Kit framework contains improvements for developers when searching maps:
“You can enter placename information or portions of an address and have Map Kit return search results that match the information you provide. For example, searching for the string “coffee” would return the location of local coffee bars along with information about each one.”
It’s a neat trick to be sure, but will it be worth the update? New versions of iOS tend to break jailbreak compatibility, and we still don’t know how far along a public version of the iOS 6.0 untethered jailbreak is. Most likely it will be available for the newest version of iOS at the time of release, but it doesn’t hurt to be cautious.
