iFixit Tears Down The iPad Mini, Samsung Display, Stereo Speakers And 512MB Of RAM [IMAGES]

| |

iFixit got their hands on the Apple iPad’s smaller brother, the iPad Mini, and tore it apart. The iPad Mini was announced last month at a special event and will finally go on sale tomorrow. It sports a 7.9- inch IPS display, A5 processor, 512MB of RAM, iSight 5 megapixel camera, FaceTime HD camera, Lightning connector, slimmer/lighter design and more.
The reviews for the new iPad Mini have been very positive and everyone is impressed. For a 7-inch tablet priced at $329, the iPad Mini’s initial pre-order stock ran out under just 72 hours. iFixit’s teardown of the iPad Mini reveals quite a lot of things and also tests the repairability of the device. The iPad Mini indeed has stereo speakers, placed on either sides of the Lightning connector. Yesterday, Apple’s Phil Schiller confirmed the same thing.
You’ll find a 3.72 V, 16.5 Whr, 4400 mAh battery on the device, half as powerful as the iPad 2, and a front FaceTime HD camera that takes 1.2 megapixel photos. Furthermore, the iPad Mini has been found to be using a Samsung manufactured display and is fairly easy to remove. But, that seems like the only easy thing to be repaired on the device.
iFixit gives the iPad Mini 2/10 for repairability, which means that you should be very careful when handling your iPad Mini, especially if you don’t have Apple Care. There are lots of tiny and hidden screws, so you could end up losing a few if you ever decide to open up your iPad Mini.
There’s also lots of adhesive used in holding the cameras, logic board, battery and cables. That’s not a good thing. Oh and if you ever end up destroying your Lightning connector, then it’s going to be really hard to repair as it’s soldered to the logic board. So, do not bend those pins, whatsoever. Head over to iFixit to check out the complete iPad Mini teardown and see how it is inside the small iPad that you just bought.
